Is the High Healing Index a Complication of Progressive Long Bone Lengthening? Observations from a Cohort of 178 Children Treated with Circular External Fixation for Lower Limb Length Discrepancy

چکیده

The use of external fixators (EFs) for lower limb lengthening is common treating length discrepancy (LLD) in children. concern at present revolves around extended treatment times, with some suggesting a healing index (HI) > 45 days/cm as major complication. aim this study to assess the factors affecting bone and duration children who undergo LLD using circular EFs. A total 240 procedures on 178 affected by congenital or acquired LLDs (mean age surgery 13.8 ± 2.8 years) were retrospectively evaluated. Complications according Lascombes’ classification analyzed. Mean HI was 57 25 femur 55 24 tibia, an 64% procedures. 189 (79%) reported complications; 85 had sole While reducing frame time crucial, revising classifications necessary avoid overestimation complications.

Lengthening of replanted or revascularized lower limbs: is length discrepancy a contraindication for limb salvage?

Some replantation cases require substantial bone shortening for primary closure. Leg-length discrepancy can be restored by lengthening of the replanted or revascularized extremities. Between 1991 and 2000, four patients with four total and two subtotal below-knee amputations had replantation or revascularization for their severely damaged extremities. All of them had extensive debridement, vasc...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Bone lengthening for correction of limb length discrepancy in a patient with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome: a case report.

Klippel-Trenanay Syndrome (KTS) consists of a triad of cutaneous haemangioma, bone and soft tissue hypertrophy and venous varicosities (4). The aetiology of this syndrome is unknown but some authors have suggested that it results from a mesodermal abnormality that occurs during fetal development (5). Bone hypertrophy usually results in limb length discrepancy, with the affected leg being the lo...

The etiology of short stature affects the clinical outcome of lower limb lengthening using external fixation

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Distraction osteogenesis (DO) has been used to gain height in short statured individuals. However, there have been no studies comparing the clinical outcome of limb lengthening based on the etiology of the short stature. We assessed whether different underlying diagnoses are associated with varied clinical outcomes in these patients. METHODS We performed a systematic re...
